The art of Taekwondo originated in South Korea, and has been passed down for generations improving the lives of those who practice it both mentally and physically. This martial art is an ancient form of fighting that pre-dates the birth of Christ. Ancient Koreans developed techniques that focused on using bare hands and feet as weapons against enemies. About 2,000 years later, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), founded in 1973, developed a unique competitive sport practiced all over the world.

Although the techniques of Taekwondo may be complex at times, understanding this art is quite simple.  Take a look at the breakdown of the word, itself.

"TAE" refers to kicking.

"KWON" refers to striking with the hand.

"DO" refers to the way to self-confidence and peace of mind.
